When you get a degree from an art and design school, you tend to see the world a bit differently from the rest.
We didn’t have football teams, cheerleaders, or frat parties. Our typical all-nighters were more like lock-ins where we spent the night in the school's computer lab grinding through the night pushing out the final touches of our portfolios.
We’d stuff ourselves with junk food and then find a cozy spot on the floor underneath our desks to crash for 30 minutes, wake up and continue grinding.
We didn’t have jocks and Barbie dolls walking around, we had dweeby guys who were a bit on the greasy, grungy side with acne, glasses, and messy hair. Our people were into film, animation, interior design, art, and culinary.
All that aside, in a typical class, we were challenged to problem solve, think differently, and unearth the creativity within us. We were praised for good ideas…not for being the coolest cats and kittens in school.
And I truly think this is what helped me to be more independent. I realized my own potential and gained a sense of self confidence to believe in my own ability and build my own dream.
Because at our school, if you were just like everybody else, you didn’t stand a chance in the real world. You would never survive. You had to stand out if you were going to make it BIG and get paid.
So, I was taught how to think for myself and take matters into my own hands to create my own future instead of following the crowd. Challenging the status quo was normal and it allowed me to be myself comfortably.
Developing creativity was an awakening in it's own right.
That said, I’m a firm believer that ingenuity and imagination are absolutely imperative for mental health, emotional intelligence and general wellbeing so that we may function as productive human beings in society.
On that note, the content I produce and workshops I provide support the growth and expansion of these disciplines for a reset in mindset with greater clarity, direction and purpose.
I aim to provide relevant, accurate, intelligent material for an experience that facilitates faster recovery, balance and peace of mind.
The outcome--being able to foster healthy relationships through an astute ability to manage anger, social anxiety, self-image, a respect for others and life itself.
